The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the Community and Technical College System, with support from the Faculty Advisory Council, will host the 34th Annual West Virginia Great Teachers Seminar in June at North Bend State Park in Ritchie County.
Faculty from colleges and universities across West Virginia are encouraged to participate in this unique, collaborative professional development experience focused on the evolving challenges and innovations in higher education instruction.
A Focus on the Art of Teaching
The Great Teachers Seminar is not discipline-specific. Instead, it centers on the art of teaching itself — bringing together educators to share ideas, reflect on their work, and learn from one another.
Built on the belief that the collective wisdom and experience of educators surpasses that of any single expert, the seminar is entirely faculty-driven. Participants engage in discussions and workshops shaped by their own insights, challenges, and innovations in the classroom.
Enrollment and Participation
To maintain the seminar’s quality, enrollment is limited. Most colleges and universities select one or two faculty members to attend, though some institutions may send more.
- Participation is coordinated through each institution
- Interested faculty should notify their campus leadership (e.g., VPAA, dean, or faculty development committee)
- Final participant selections are submitted by each institution
Costs and Logistics
- Program and meals are funded by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission
- Lodging (3 nights)
- Meals begin with lunch on Monday and conclude with breakfast on Thursday
Please note: participation is limited to selected faculty only; guests are not permitted.
